Cat Kennel Co-Manager Reports to:
Operations Manager and Executive Director
Summary:
The Cat Kennel Co-Manager has the overall responsibility of the health, safety and adoptability of the cats at the shelter.
They will be working directly and in conjunction with the second Co-Manager.
This includes, but is not limited to, intake management, foster home support, overseeing the cat adoption process and post-adoption follow up.
Manager will monitor the safety and sanitation of the cattery, and train, schedule, supervise and evaluate animal attendants; oversee medical care and treatment of cats under our care, including coordinating the scheduling for offsite vet appointments and obtaining transportation; assist shelter veterinarian; ensure the compliance of isolation and cattery and nursery protocols; assist with the coordination of a community cats program (TNR); and, adhere to all RBARI policies.
Essential Duties and Functions:
Serves as a voting member of the Animal Health & Welfare Committee (for cats/kittens) Enforces all state required guidelines, and follows intake targets and procedures Performs direct care, including but not limited to, vaccinations, microchipping, fecal tests, deworming, wound checks, ear cleanings, nail trims, check for fleas and ticks, flea baths, fluids, lime dips, monitoring temps and administrating medications Works with fellow Co-Manager to make sure all medical reports and animal charts are up to date and accurate Works with fellow Co-Manager to create a list of animals to be seen by shelter veterinarian twice weekly Identifies medical needs and coordinates medical care and specialized handling working with the fellow Co-Manager and Veterinarian.
Ensures cats/kittens obtain emergency medical care as needed; communicating with the Veterinarian and Operations Manager to decide appropriate hospitalizations.
Ensures a 100% spay / neuter compliance for adopted cats / kittens Follows protocol for the isolation rooms, nursery and cattery Ensures all PPE procedures are followed Maintains inventory of medications, food and supplies and submits list of items to be ordered on a weekly basis Supervises cleaning, feeding, and medication schedules Ensures cleanliness and functionality of equipment/supplies Manages schedules for the cattery staff, and ensures staff are sticking to their assigned schedule and not working past or before their shift.
Responsible for supervision, training, scheduling, and performance appraisals for animal attendants Trains and assists animal attendants in the safe handling techniques of animals, particularly those with behavioral challenges or feral cats in the community cats program Trains animal attendants in the safe use of cleaning agents Facilitates routine department staff meetings and communications Provides weekly and monthly reports on cattery status, including animal behavior and staff updates; assists with the development of long-range plans for the department Works alongside our Feline Foster and Outreach Coordinator for our community cats / TNR program Works with Social Media Manager to market long-term cats Ensures a positive customer experience for all visitors Ensures a professional and positive work environment for all employees and volunteers Reviews adoption applications and works with a team in order to find the best adoptive home for each cat Reviews applications prior to finalizing adoptions Ensures a high-quality experience for all potential adopters and visitors Provides prompt, courteous and appropriate responses to inquiries Guarantees high quality services are offered in accordance with RBARI policies and procedures Works to reduce departmental costs through donations and cost management Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Operations Manager and Executive Director Safety:
Ensures a safe work environment, following all safety guidelines and modeling safe work practice Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
Work is performed in a kennel/shelter setting Work includes frequent bending, reaching, kneeling, climbing stairs, walking, and standing on feet 8-10 hours per day while performing job functions Exposure to disinfectant solutions when cleaning Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds with reasonable accommodations
Qualifications:
Clean Driver's license High school diploma or equivalent required - BA preferred Must be able to pass pre-employment drug testing and background checks Previous experience in an animal shelter, veterinarian's office or kennel environment is required Previous experience administering vaccines and medical treatments required Previous management or vet tech experience preferred Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of basic animal behavior and breeds Experience handling cats, both domestic and feral Knowledge of TNR - trap, neuter and release of community cats Commitment to the mission, values, goals, and success of the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc.
